N. Ram (66) said on Monday that he will be stepping down as editor-in-chief of the The Hindu and its associate publications, will also retire from the post of publisher of the company’s
titles, making way for cousin K. Balaji, who oversees production and
printing functions within the company. Ram will continue to remain a
whole-time director of Kasturi and Sons Ltd (KSL).

A long-drawn stand-off between the family
members of Kasturi and Sons Ltd, publishing company of The Hindu, N Ram
has stated his decision to step down as Editor-in-Chief and publisher of
The Hindu newspaper and other group publications – Business Line,
Frontline, and Sportstar – with effect from January 19, 2012

He
will make way for Siddharth Varadarajan as editor of The Hindu, D.
Sampath Kumar as editor of The Hindu Business Line, R. Vijayakumar as
editor of Frontline and Nirmal Shekar as editor of Sportstar.
He wrote in an
email that he was taking the decision “in keeping with the relevant
resolutions adopted by the board of directors and the shareholders of
KSL on editorial succession.”
