BIA plans expansion - Terminal 1

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said the terminal would be expanded with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore. “The Joint Legislature Committee constituted to look into the alleged lacuna in the execution of the airport has pinpointed the inadequacies and has been very critical in its stand. Taking the recommendations into consideration, it has been decided to expand Terminal 1. The expansion will take place in two phases, where toilet facilities and VIP lounge will be improved,” he said.

GVK Power and Infrastructure, which has purchased 29 per cent equity in the project, made a presentation before the CM, highlighting the features of the expansion project. The board is said to have approved the proposal. The company will make another presentation before the civil aviation ministry after which the tender process will be initiated.

Mr Yeddyurappa also said an official delegation along with a team of experts will visit international airports in other countries so that the technical aspects and aesthetics could be replicated at BIA.
After expansion of terminal 1, the airport can accommodate AirBus A-380. It will have more boarding gates and check-in counters.
