Bangalore’s
properties could soon be on the geo-spatial network or Google Earth. In
a city where property is the most disputed issue, the civic planners
are trying to put in place a satelliteenabled system where 14.82 lakh
GIS-mapped properties in the greater Bangalore area would be integrated
with the satellite.
The city is the first in the country to roll
out such a project. The objective is to eventually integrate it with
the revenue department's Urban Property Ownership Records (UPOR) that
entitles a legitimate owner a property card.
By entering the Property Identification Number (PID) on the BBMP’s website, a property owner can see his structure in brick and mortar on the map along with details such as owner’s name, (as per property tax records), plot size, built-up area, vacant area, property tax update, residential or commercial, rented/self occupied et al. BBMP’s IT department made its maiden presentation to BBMP special commissioner (projects) K R Niranjan on Monday in this connection.
Since Google Earth is most popular one in public domain, the BBMP is working out the licensing formalities with the company.
